Rosalie Joan Goebel

March 30, 1931December 27, 2019

Rosalie Joan Goebel, a lifelong resident of Kansas City Kansas passed away December 27th at Lansing Care and Rehabilitation Center due to complications from a stroke. She was 88 years old.

Rosalie was born March 30, 1931 to Mathias and Rose (Subelka) Schmitz. On August 19, 1950 she married Carl Goebel, and she would tell you it was the coldest night in August in history. She lived most of her life in the Rosedale area. She lived her final years at Victory Hills Senior Living in KCK. While there she enjoyed playing BINGO, happy hour and partaking in the various activities. She was an avid collector of many things. Her largest collection was of Angels, there wasn't one that she saw that she didn't say "ooohhh isn't that purdy?". After her stroke, she continued to play bingo at Lansing Care and beg them for hot tea with honey. She had a goal of having one more cup of hot tea with honey and toast. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Another goal Rosalie had was to find out if Eric Stonestreet was the grandson or great or great-great grandson of her godfather, “Stoney” Stonestreet. We couldn’t make that happen even though we tried. Even the last couple months she still enjoyed telling stories of her life.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl, son, Gregory Goebel, brother Donald {Pat) Schmitz, and a grandson, John Si. She is survived by daughters Karen (Terry) Trent, Lansing, KS, Karla (Paul) Wallace, Baldwin City, KS, Denise (John) Breckenridge, Smithville, MO; sisters, Sylvia Stegman, Lancaster, CA, Judy (Earnie) Leihsing, Kansas City, KS, Val (George) Soptick, Mound City, KS, Sister-in-Law, Carol (Jim) Smart, Edwardsville, KS; 14 grandchildren, Deanna, Monica, Melissa, Jacob, Lucas and Natalie; Gregory Jr., Eric, Shelly, Joe and Amber; Bridget and Abigail; Shannon; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews (we can’t ask her the number now but she always knew exactly how many).

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11th from 12-1pm, with a memorial service starting at 1 p.m. at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Inurnment following at Chapel Hill Mausoleum.

Donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Brain Injury Research, Leukemia Foundation. She is home with the love of her life Carl, and though we will miss her terribly, we are happy they have been reunited.
