
Rose M. Gabel, 78, of Lawrence, KS, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Pioneer Ridge in Lawrence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 3rd, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 94th and State Avenue in Kansas City, KS, with interment following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family requests contributions to Heart of America Hospice. Rose was born February 14, 1932 in Kansas City, KS, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, and had been a member of the Altar Society there. She loved reading, baking, watching mystery shows and especially loved spending time with her grandkids. Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Paul F. Gabel in 2001; her brother, Frank Smarekar; and her son, Paul F. “Chip” Gabel, Jr. in 1994. Survivors include 2 sons, Chris Gabel & his wife Martha of Olathe, KS, and Andy Gabel of Shawnee, KS; daughter, Susan Potter & her husband Jerry of Lawrence, KS; 3 brothers, Louie Bratty, Anthony P. Smarekar, and John D. Smarekar, all of Kansas City, KS; sister, Madeline Jones of York, PA; daughter-in-law, Pam Gabel of Lees Summit, MO; and 8 grandchildren, Alison Gabel, Meghan Gabel, Brad Gabel, Kristin Potter, Jessi Potter, Alicia Potter, Hannah Gabel, and Sarah Gabel, who all love her very much and will miss her dearly.
