

Sharon Rae Strom Bennett, 79, of Shawnee, KS, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 15th from 6-8 pm with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:30 pm at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 16th at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS. Interment will follow Mass at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145.
Sharon was born April 9, 1935, an only child, to Helen (Hinze) and Bill McCorkill in Kansas City, KS. Sharon’s father died when she was one year old. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Robert L. Strom.
Sharon graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1952, where she was a cheerleader and a homecoming attendant. On May 5, 1956, Sharon married George E. “Eddie” Bennett, Jr. For many years, Sharon was a member of the Altar Society and choir at St. Patrick Catholic Church in KCK. She was an avid supporter of the Humane Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and Special Olympics. Sharon loved feeding the birds, watching the deer, listening to Neil Diamond, and growing her flowers at the family’s long-time home in Bonner Springs, KS. She especially enjoyed visits by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, and sons, Paul and Greg Bennett. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Cindy McIntyre and husband Kenny of Kansas City, KS; Julie Moeller and husband David of Oskaloosa, KS; and Katy Vohs and husband Joe of Half Moon Bay, CA; sons, Skip Bennett of Lawrence, KS; Bob Bennett of Kansas City, MO; Steve Bennett and wife Kris of Redmond, WA; daughter-in-law, Jean McClure, of Overland Park, KS; 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many dear friends, including residents and staff of Shawnee Hills Senior Living Center.
