

Sherran Lee Hedgecock, 77, of Overland Park, KS, passed away April 9, 2017. Sherran was born May 22, 1939 in San Diego, CA to Charles and Betty Nevius. She grew up in KCK and was a cheerleader while she attended Wyandotte High School and graduated in 1957. Sherran attended the University of Kansas. She worked several jobs before settling with General Motors, where she worked her way up from the secretarial pool. In 1975, she was promoted to Traffic and Material Manager at the GM Leeds plant in KCMO, she was the first woman outside of their corporate headquarters in upper management. She retired from GM in 1992 as a plant manager in Lansing, MI.
Sherran married Jim Hedgecock in 1962 and took up trapshooting in 1964. She was on the Kansas State team in 1966, 67, and 68 and was recognized as one of the top women trap shooters in the Country in 1968. She was a practical joker and had a witty and sarcastic attitude. Sherran loved KU basketball, and was also an avid bowler and golfer and was a member of the Alvamar Country Club. She loved playing bridge with her Thursday bridge group, and her gin games with her two special friends. Sherran was an animal lover, she dearly missed her dog Molly, and she leaves behind her constant companion, her cat Mr. Thomas Kincaid. She had a generous and loving heart and always put her family and friends first, through thick and thin. Her latest home at Lamar Court was always brightened by her upbeat attitude and friendliness while she was volunteering.
She is survived by her son, James Michael Hedgecock and his wife Brooke Elise Marie, and their children, Alexys Starr, Kaidyn James Michael, and Aileen Ashley Elise.
A meet and greet will begin at 5:00 p.m. and memorial services will be at 6:00 p.m., Thurs., April 20th at Chapel Hill – Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. A private family inurnment will be held later at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Sherran would ask you to donate to one of her favorite charities. Donations should be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
