Shirley (Chambers) Congrove, 89, of Kansas City, Kansas, went to be with the Lord with her family at her bedside Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Shirley will be remembered as a loving mom, grandma, and great grandma.
She was born February 12, 1937, in Atchison, Kansas to Everett William and Marie (Kasten) Chambers. She and her three siblings grew up on a farm in Cummins, Kansas. She attended Atchison County Community High School where she made long-long friends and graduated in 1954. Shirley married Jerry Congrove on May 20, 1956, and the two celebrated 54 years of marriage before Jerry passed away in 2011. Shirley worked as an Administrative Assistant and retired from the Office of Surface Mining where she received many awards for her performance. Shirley loved shopping, taking grandkids on summer trips, taking trips with her sister and sister-in-law to visit her niece, helping missionaries from her church, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl Davis, and her husband, Rod; son, Craig Congrove, and his wife, Ann; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; sister, Katie Clem, and her husband Dave; sister-in-law, Beverly Chambers; sister-in-law, Julia Chambers; brother-in-law, Jim Congrove, and his wife Dorothy; brother-in-law, Bob Congrove, and his wife Patsy; brother-in-law, Alva Lee Taliaferro; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Homestead of Shawnee, and Ascend Hospice for their loving care of Shirley.
Shirley’s celebration of life will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Friday, July 24, 2026. Visitation will start at 10 am, with the memorial service following at 11 am.
