Shirley Ann Simmons, 75, of Kansas City, KS passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 1, 2010. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5th, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Shirley was born on January 27, 1935 in Kansas City, KS., to Alvis P. and Hazel (Matteson) Randolph. She was a graduate of Wyandotte High School, and attended Judson Baptist Church. Shirley enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary Post #199. Shirley retired from Colgate Palmolive Company. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, watching the Chiefs, and hosting family holiday dinners in her home. Shirley is preceded in death by her husbands, Stanley Morris Retherford in 1960 and Wayne Robert Simmons in 1992; two sons, Stan Retherford and Gary Wayne Simmons; her parents; and 4 brothers. Survivors include her children: Karen Kline and her husband Michael, Karla Springston, Albert Retherford and Bobby Simmons and his wife Julie. Left behind to cherish her memory are her 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to her niece Faribee Gregory. Shirley is also survived by her faithful companion “Dutchess”. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
