

Steven Blaine Petibone was born on December 20, 1958, in Lapeer, Michigan to parents Dale and Rebecca Petibone . He passed away on September 17, 2025. Steve was an Irish twin. His brother, Dale Michael Petibone, was born in January of the same year, 1958.
Steve grew up in Metamora, Michigan surrounded by a lot of aunts, uncles and cousins. Steve's grandparents lived right next door. In
high school, Steve liked to play hockey. He graduated from Lapeer East High School in 1977. Steve attended William Jennings Bryan College in Dayton, TN where he played hockey and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Greek studies. He also received an associate's degree in applied science from Hudson Valley Community College with a Major in Chemistry.
Steven served in the U.S. Army and New York National Guard from May 1983 till March 2017 when he medically retired with over 33 years of service. Steven started his career as a U.S. Army Human
Intelligence Collector (35M) (formally 97E- Interrogator). He then went on to spend 16 Months in Monterey, California where he completed the Department of Defense Arabic and Arabic-Egyptian Dialect Language Course in July 1985. From January 1998 to December 2000, Steve was mobilized to Germany, where he served as a journalist (46Q) Steven had multiple combat deployments that included one to Bosnia and two tours to Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Throughout his military career he spent over 48 months in DOD Designated combat zones. Steven retired as Military Technician with the New York National Guard as a Public Affairs Chief (46Z) Where he served full time as the editor
for the New York National Guard Times Magazine, the Joint Forces Headquarters photo-journalist, and the Public Affairs Directors supervisor on camera usage and photography computer programs.
Some of his awards include; The Iraq Campaign medal with two campaign stars, the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal,
Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device and The Meritorious Service Medal.
Steve married Karen (Komada) Petibone in Ballston Spa, NY on August 25th, 1990. They had three children and raised their family in Valley Falls, NY. Steve enjoyed photography and writing. Steve
was most recently living in Mission, Kansas near his son, Steven.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Kara Leck of Springfield, Missouri and sons, Steve Petibone (fiancé Heidi Moore) of Kansas City, Missouri and Shawn Petibone of Raleigh, North Carolina, his brothers, Dale Michael (Linda) Petibone, Chandler Petibone, Dayton Petibone, Christopher Petibone and his sister Kelly (Gary) Herriman.
Steve is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Faye and Vera (Armstrong) Petibone, maternal grandparents Titus J. and Sylvia (Davis) Brown, parents Dale and Rebecca Petibone, paternal
aunts and uncles Delores (Louie) Korff, Donna (Fred) Dotson, Dorothy (Petibone) Wilkinson, Ronald (Barb) Petibone and maternal aunts and uncles Titus and Erlene Brown, John and Donna Brown, Dayton and Sandy (Brown) Hinds and David Brown.
Steve was a Christian. The best way to honor Steve now is to consider asking Christ into your life. The bible is clear that the only way to heaven is to ask Christ into your life and follow his teachings. Steve is in heaven. We hope you will be too.
