It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of TJ McCray, after a long battle with Dementia, he succumbed to the disease on Monday Nov 4th. TJ was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend who left us at the age of 82.
TJ was born on December 20, 1941 in Shaw Mississippi to the late Sam McCray and Mary Hawkins.
On January 28th, 1961 TJ married Doris Berry. Later in 1966 they moved to Kansas City, Kansas. They were married for 48 years until Doris passed away on October 28th, 2009.
TJ worked as a laborer for CertainTeed Fiberglass for over 38 years, where he retired in the early 2000’s. He enjoyed cars, whether racing them or working on them. He even owned a mechanic shop for several years. TJ also enjoyed CB radios as he was part of the Sunflower CB group and participated in “Keydowns” in which he was proud of the trophies that he received. The last CB handle that he had was (039) pronounced zero-thirty-nine and he loved shooting as much skip as possible from his home base station.
Preceding him in death were his parents Sam and Mary McCray as well as his loving wife Doris McCray. Also siblings Brothers: Roosevelt McCray, Bell (Babro) McCray and Sister Roberta Brown
He leaves to cherish his memories daughters, Denise (Eddie) Standley, Cassandra (Paul) Ford-Nelson, Veronica McCray-Madden; Sons, Thomas (KerSandra) McCray, Patrick (Cindy) McCray, Julius (Kim) Johnson.
He also leaves to cherish his memories his Brother Wash McCray and sisters Mary Louise Love and Martha McKay, several Nieces, nephews and grandchildren and great grand-children with many friends
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 12th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home prior to the Services.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, November 12th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home located at 701 N 94 St, Kansas City, Kansas @ 11:00am. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
