Thomas Tom Sherman Gilbertson Sr.

Thomas Sherman Gilbertson Sr., 91, of Gladstone, MO passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Smithville, MO. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July14, 2011 at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home prior to the service.

Thomas was born in Morris, Il., and lived there until attending Augustana Academy in Canton, South Dakota. While attending Augustana Academy he received orders to report for induction in the U.S. Army, served in Leavenworth, KS where he met and married his wife of 65 years, Gertrude Margaret Gilbertson. They lived in Kansas City, KS. For 33 years while raising four children. They also lived in Lawrence, KS. for 13 years, retired and lived in Sun City, AZ. for 10 years before returning to the KC area in order to be closer to their children.

Thomas is survived by his sons; Thomas Gilbertson Jr., John Gilbertson (Patricia) and Ray Gilbertson (Liz), daughter; Katherine Nichols (Les), brother; Bob Gilbertson and sister; Mary Davidson. Left behind to cherish his memory are his 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Condolences may be left at www.chapelhill-butler.com.
