With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Timothy Jay Pope, born in May of 1965, in Kansas City, Kansas he passed away on February 11, 2026. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, David L. Pope and Judith K. Pope.
Tim is lovingly remembered by his cherished daughter, Madison Pope; his sister, Julie Feden, and her husband, Bill Feden; and his brother, Steven Pope, and his wife, Katie Pope.
He was a proud and loving uncle to his nieces and nephew, Heather McCarty, who is married to Nick McCarty; Hillary Schuberger , who is married to Tony Schuberger; and Eva Kibar and Ryker Pope.
Tim also adored his great nieces and nephews, William, Waylon, Jonnie, Rowden, Henley, and Rip. He leaves behind many cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
Tim grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, attending Catholic schools before graduating from Bishop Ward High School in 1983. From a young age, he was always the best dressed in the room, a signature trait that followed him throughout his life. Tim had an eccentric soul and a creative eye, with a love for art, mid-century modern design, unique fashion, and music. He was a great conversationalist and very intellectual, known for his wonderful smile and a head of hair that anyone would be jealous of.
Sports were one of Tim’s greatest joys. He was quite the ball player in his younger years and remained a passionate fan throughout his life. A longtime Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder, he loved football and baseball and was always cheering on the Jayhawks. Tim also had a special appreciation for vintage sports memorabilia and classic uniforms, favoring the older versions of the Jayhawk and never quite warming up to KU’s black football uniforms. Later in life, Tim took up golf and could often be found making memories on the golf course alongside his brother and many of his friends.
While Tim experienced profound joy throughout his 60 years, he also quietly faced challenges that were known best to those closest to him. In honoring his life, his family hopes his journey brings greater understanding to the challenges many families carry. Help is available. Hope is real. Seeking support can change the course of a life.
Those who mourn him find comfort in imagining Tim welcomed into heaven, listening to Elvis, reunited with his mother and catching a long over due ball game with his dad.
Though his soul is now at peace, he will be deeply missed here on earth. His vibrant spirit and the memories shared with him will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. We leave you with a Bessie Anderson Stanley quote Tim shared often “ To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” We hope Tim can now rest in eternal peace as he did in fact succeed.
A Celebration of Life honoring Tim will be held on Friday, February 27th, at Dubs Dread Golf Course, located at 12601 Hollingsworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in the upstairs room next to the bar, where stories and memories will be shared beginning at 7:00 p.m. as we remember and celebrate Tim’s life together. We also encourage you to come dressed like Tim —bring on all the Tim style.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Tim’s memory may consider a donation to the First Responders Golf Foundation, established by his brother, in support of mental health awareness and in providing hope and resources to those facing life’s challenges.
