William "Bill" B. Ham, Sr.

William “Bill” B. Ham, Sr., 86, passed away June 7, 2016. Visitation will be Saturday, June 18th at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Bill was born in Mt. Washington, Missouri to George B. and Irene (Lane) Ham. He served in the U.S. Army for 23 years before retiring. Bill married Barbara Hines on May 30, 1952 and they were married until her passing in 1985. He worked as a Letter Carrier for the Leawood Postal Service for 21 years before retiring in 1993. On April 28, 1990, Bill married Shirley Reed. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Shawnee, KS, Shriners Ararat Goldwing’s, Scottish Rite, Heartland Riders Motorcycle Club and Leawood Postal Union. In his free time, Bill enjoyed crosswords, reading, trivia and movies.

Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; parents, George and Irene; step-mom, Ruth Stanley and brother, Bernard Ham. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Clay Center, Kansas; children, Mary P. “Patti” Ham of Gardner, Kansas, William B. Ham, Jr. of Gardner, Kansas, Trina L. (Carl D.) Young of Kansas City, Missouri, and Marie E. Ham of Gardner, Kansas; step-children, Kevin L. (Pam) Reed of Linneus, Missouri, Christine (Gary) Matteson of Clay Center, Kansas and Kelley Reed of Waukesha, Wisconsin; sisters, Sharon (Charles) Blake of Kansas and Grace Ford of California; sister-in-law, Darlene Ham of Raymore, Missouri; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
