William Dwane George, 88, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, in Kansas City, Kansas. Born on August 8, 1937, in Netawaka, Kansas, Dwane lived a full and meaningful life marked with dedication to family, service to his country, and a deep love for the outdoors.
Dwane was an avid hunter and sportsman who found both peace and excitement in the woods. He enjoyed tracking deer or elk or flushing out quail and pheasant, but he especially loved the turkey hunts. After retirement, he discovered a new passion: metal detecting. He spent many hours on his treasure hunts, carefully dating and displaying each find with pride.
He was a good father who made many sacrifices to ensure his family was cared for. Quietly steadfast in his support, he never complained. His love for his family was unwavering.
Dwane proudly served in the Army Reserve for 23 years. At retirement, he was a Master Sergeant E-8. His commitment to his country was a source of great pride and reflected his character and sense of duty.
Throughout his working years, Dwane held a variety of positions, but the role he cherished most was serving as Regional Director for the National Wild Turkey Federation. He often said it never felt like work, and it was the best job he ever had. His passion for conservation and wildlife was evident in both his professional and personal life.
One of Dwane’s favorite shows was "Gunsmoke." Though the volume was often off, he always seemed to know exactly what the characters were saying.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dwane is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Kathy; their children Angie (Tim) George and David (Carol) George; grandchildren Jenny (Nick) Boyle, Cole (Elizabeth) George, Stephanie (Keifer) Miller, Alexandra George, and Kristine (Jordan) Petry; and great-granddaughter Ramona Kay Boyle. He was deeply proud of each of them and took great joy in their accomplishments.
William Dwane George leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and strength. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1, 2025, from 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Falcon Lake Golf Course 4605 Clubhouse Dr.
