Bill was born July 1, 1936 in Missouri to Ralph and Mary Lee (Hagerman) Monroe. He graduated from high school in Columbia, Missouri and was drafted into the Army. Bill served in the infantry in Korea. After his honorable discharge from the service, he worked as a musician. Bill was a singer and entertainer who performed for a variety of groups over the years. Lately, he often performed at local VFW and American Legion Halls and nursing homes in the area. Bill was a lifetime member of the American Legion #370 of Overland Park, Kansas.
He was an excellent bowler and was a backup bowler on Budweiser’s professional bowling team. Bill also enjoyed playing golf, softball, and darts. His favorite pastime was to smoke his pipe and read Louis L’Amour books. He was a humble man, and rarely shared about his successes, but also was very opinionated and stubborn (in a good way). Bill was very involved with his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Zandra Monroe.
Bill is survived by his son, Brent Monroe and his wife Meridith of KCK; his grandson, Orrin L. Monroe, in school at Maryville, MO; his granddaughter, Jessica M. Monroe, in school in Warrensburg, MO; as well as two sisters and two brothers, other relatives and friends.
