Zelma Lee Spicer, 75 of Lawrence, Kansas passed away May 7, 2018 at home. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00pm at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
Zelma was born November 6, 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas to Exta and Fannie Ashford. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1960. Zelma worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas and the Kansas City Star in Kansas City, Missouri. Though she was most proud of taking care of her home and family.
Zelma had a great love of God, family and friends. She served faithfully to all the callings in her life as giver, a true friend, mother, grandmother, and recently great grandmother. She loved sports and had a heart full of Christian love.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Harry P. Spicer; her siblings, Albert Kerr, Theodore Kerr, Reuben Ashford, and Carolyn Ashford; and her granddaughters, Jessica Clark, and Precious Marie Wilson.
Zelma is survived by her son, Rodney Spicer; her grandchildren, Latoya Haynes (Antonio Chandler), Paulownia Guerrero (Gabino), Rashaad Spicer, Raejaan Spicer, Raemona Spicer, and Jeremiah Spicer; her sister, Elena Ashford; and her great-grandchildren, Lynyah and Lynyecia Foster, Boston Brockman, and Lillian Guerrero; nieces, Renee Kerr, Yolanda Kerr, and Rhonda Jones of Kansas City, Kansas and Sharna Reece of Iola, Kansas; and the Sumner High School Class of 1961; as well as other relatives and friends.
