Adelaida Marie Flores, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 14, 2017. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and with her gentle smile a friend to everyone she met. Marie also known as, Adella, Aunt Belly, Aunt Bell and Tia Della was born on April 29, 1925 in Kansas City, Kansas to Gavino and Manuela (Rios) Fernandez. She grew up in the Armourdale district of Kansas City, Kansas. She attended John J. Ingalls Elementary School. In the early nineteen forties, she worked for Cutty Hays Packing House. It was there where she met the love of her life, Jesse M. Flores. They were married on Sunday, February 8, 1948 in Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Through this union together they raised their three children, Patricia, Jesse Jr. and Jeanette. Marie also worked many years for Universal Manufacturing Company.
Mom enjoyed listening to her favorite mexican tunes over the radio and CD player. Especially her favorite song, "Un Punio de Tierra". She was the life of any party and always seemed to get it started with the first dance with her sister Jennie. In 1976, she was diagnosed with cancer and has been a survivor ever since. Our mom made the most delicious apple pies. She enjoyed spending time with her three children and their families. She especially enjoyed watching her great grandchildren. The more rowdy they were the better. They continued to put a smile on her face every time she saw them. Mom also enjoyed watching the Royals and the Chiefs. Every time she watched the games she was amazed by the number of fans sitting in the stands. Marie was a dedicated member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and a standing member of their Guadalupe Society.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Gavino and Manuela Fernandez, her loving husband of 50 years, Jesse M. Flores, Sr. and grandson, Damian Flores. Marie is also preceded in death by her ten siblings; Miguel Fernandez, Eulalia Robles, Jessie Medrano, Paul Fernandez, Connie Avila, Sarah Villanueva, Marcelino Fernandez, Ralph Fernandez, Modesta Fernandez and Enrique Fernandez . She is survived by her three children, Patricia Jimenez and her husband Joel of Grain Valley, Missouri, Jesse Flores Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Lenexa, Kansas and daughter, Jeanette Johnson of the home. Left behind to cherish her memory are her seven grandchildren, Theresa (Ray) Ladner, Stephen (Kim) Flores, Diane LeDesma, Latisha (Ramiro) Cervantes, Patty LeDesma, David Flores and Gavin Johnson. She will be sadly missed by her eleven great grandchildren, Raymond, Marissa, Andrew, Ben, Christian, Caden, Vincent, Belecia and Azaylia, Natalia and Nicolas. Marie is also survived by her sister, Juanita Duran and her husband Paul of Chicago, Illinois along with several nieces, nephews and godchildren. The family would like to send out a special thanks to Howard Hall, Hangar-CPO for keeping our mother dancing through the years.
