Adolph was born on September 25, 1924, in Emporia, Kansas to Felicitas (Campos) and Francisco Velasquez Sr. Adolph married Lucy Ramirez on July 17, 1942. Over 81 years, the couple welcomed 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Adolph loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed family reunions.
In his younger years, he enjoyed playing sports. Later, he enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren play a variety of sports. He was a Kansas City Royals fan and an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan!
Adolph really enjoyed reading the newspaper to keep up with current news events. He especially enjoyed the comic sections. Some of his favorites were Gasoline Alley, Little Orphan Annie, and Blondie & Dagwood.
During WWII, Adolph served as an Army Corporal in the European Theatre Campaign under the 6th corps 117th Cavalry Recon Squadron. He returned on November 5th, 1945, which was Dottie’s 2nd birthday.
After 40 years with Armco Steel, Adolph retired, working from 1945 to 1986.
He was a proud member of the American Legion and VFW.
He was also a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church.
Adolph is preceded in death by his wife Lucy, daughter "Dottie" (Mary) Macias; parents Felicitas and Francisco Velasquez Sr.; brother: Benny Velasquez; sisters Juanita Martinez, Hope Diaz, Lilly Murillo, Sara Medina.
Adolph is survived by daughter Hope Velasquez; sons David (Lin), Danny, Rick (Helen); brothers Francisco Jr., Guillermo (Phyllis), and Rudy (Karen); sisters Rachel Contreras, Esther Salinas, Rosalie (Abel) DePeralta and 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) for all their care, patience and kindness they gave to our “Pop”. A special thank you to Helen Velasquez, for all the loving care she provided to “Pop”.
On Thursday, September 28, 2023 a visitation will be from 5 to 8pm with the rosary from at 6 to 6:15pm at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd., Kansas City, MO 64119. On Friday, September 29, 2023 the Mass of Christian Burial will start at 10:30am at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 4737 N. Cleveland Ave. Kansas City, MO 64117 followed by the committal service at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64138.
Adolph made many charitable contributions… including Wounded Warriors, American Heart Association, and a variety of others.
