She was born Agnes Amanda Meyer on September 9th, 1920 in Bay, Mo. A small town close to Hermann, Missouri. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. They were raised on a farm, and all chipped in with the chores.
In her early 20’s, she moved to Kansas City and worked in a downtown office. In 1947, she met and fell in love with Eugene Davis. He was a tall, handsome Navy man who swept her off her feet. They soon married and lived happily together till his death in 2005. They never had a cross word for each other, always sweet and kind, holding hands and enjoying each other’s company. The couple lived in Raytown, Missouri where they built their own home, literally “brick by brick”. They lived in the fully equipped basement while the rest of the home was being built. Marble, stone, wood, slate, and bricks made it one that will last for centuries!
Together they made incredible flower and vegetable gardens. The 2 acres were also full of apple trees, strawberry patches, and a vineyard which they cultivated to make various wines and jams. Everything Agnes cooked was made from scratch. All her friends and relatives loved to come to dinner when she was cooking!
During their marriage, Agnes and Gene traveled through all 50 states. They also traveled abroad to Italy, France, Germany, Brussels, Netherlands and Scotland. They lived a full life and were in love till the very end.
Agnes is survived by one sister, Alda Nora Novic of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 13 nieces and nephews, as well as all their children, and has been cared for by cousin Donna Noel and niece Karen Bridges for the past several years. She had been living at the independent community Greenwood Terrace in Lenexa, Kansas; being fully mobile, sharp, funny, writing stories and poems… at 97!!
She was loved and befriended by all who met her. She will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to The Salvation Army, PO. Box 803319, Kansas City, MO 64180-3319 will be greatly appreciated.
