Alan Cameron Macmillan, 63, of Kansas City KS, passed away suddenly on July 5, 2018.
Alan was the son of the late Dr. Allister and Lydia (Bigelow) Macmillan. Born in Ithaca, NY on March 17, 1955 he was raised in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and was educated in Wolfville schools. Alan graduated from Acadia University and attended the University of Houston to further his education in chemical and electrical engineering. He worked as a production engineer, QA manager and plant manager in the powder coating industry both in the US and Canada for many years before turning to his love of repairing and maintaining antique cars. Alan developed into a true “car whisperer” being able to diagnose, repair, and restore vintage vehicles from 1904, to 1916-1917 electrics, to high powered sports cars. Alan was a key member of the team responsible for the Art of the Car Concours from 2006 to 2016.
Alan had multi-faceted interests including automobiles, animals, reading, nature, attending the ballet, photography, motorcycles, and continuing to educate himself at every opportunity.
Alan’s presence was a staple at Kansas City Ballet performances for 20-plus years. He was intensely interested in the Ballet and dance in general. His steadfast dedication to the company these past two decades did not go unnoticed.
He is survived by three sisters, a brother as well as several nieces, nephews and two grand-nieces, all residing in Canada and abroad.
He will be missed by friends and family for his kind nature, his expertise and devotion to his work in many fields.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the McGilley Memorial Chapel – Midtown, 20 West Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri, 64111.
