Albert was born on August 18, 1932 in Bolivar, Missouri. He was married to Mary Lynne Braswell on November 13, 1954, and together they raised three children: Mark, Marsha, and Mike. Mary Lynne preceded him in death in February of 2016.
Big Al was a true original. He was handy, inventive, and always in the middle of a project. He was a lifelong house painter by trade, a skill that reflected his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in doing things right. From digging a lake in Archie, to building koi ponds, continually updating his home in Grandview to make it uniquely his own. Albert took satisfaction in creating, fixing, and improving whatever was around him.
He was well known for his love of friendly competition and a good bet, no matter how small the stakes. If you went to visit Albert, you knew to come prepared with at least a couple of dollars because there was always something worth wagering on. A skilled pool shark, he rarely missed a chance to show his talent at the table. Often, his confidence was punctuated by his unmistakable signature smirk-usually appearing right before he won.
In 2018, Albert married Wanda Lee Jett, with whom he shared his later years. She preceded him in death in on July 7th, 2021.
He was also preceded in death by his six siblings and was the last one to pass.
Albert is survived by his three children; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
The family extends special thanks to the VA and the staff at Medicalodge of Butler for their compassionate care and support during Albert's final days.
Albert "Big Al" Cornell will be remembered for his craftsmanship, competitive spirit, quick wit, and the signature smirk that let you know he was already one step ahead.
