Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Al was the oldest son of Sigmund and Edith Seroka. In 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served honorably for 20 years at duty stations throughout the Corps, including service in Vietnam. With a deep love for the outdoors and the beauty of all four seasons, he retired from the Marine Corps in Kansas City in 1977.
Following his military career, Al began a long post-service career in the telecommunications and data processing industries. He worked for United Telephone before continuing his career with several other companies and the federal government.
Al embraced many interests throughout his life. Hunting, fishing, golf, and bowling were among his lifelong passions. He was also active in scouting and charitable volunteer work serving the needs of Marines. His willingness to contribute to the well-being of others was a hallmark of his time with us.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Sigmund and Edith Seroka, and his wife, Linda.
He is survived by his brother, Dave of Texas; his sons, Greg of Virginia, Paul of California, Dan of Missouri, and Michael of Missouri; and his daughters, Sheryl Johnson of Washington, Diana Craft of Virginia, Jeri Kay Falkowski of Texas, and Melanie Clifford of Missouri. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Services for Al will be held on Monday, August 24 at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Private burial at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville, MO.
