A memorial service will be held at Southwood Church of the Nazarene, 8201 Raytown Road, Raytown, MO 64138, on July 13th at 11am
Known for his love of fishing, storytelling, and his church, Alfred will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his 2 children: David Fletcher, son, and his family; Carrie (Fletcher) Schmid, daughter, and her family.
Alfred was raised in East Moline, Illinois by his parents, Wendell Craig Fletcher and Rosemary Evelyn (Pedersen) Fletcher. He had a younger brother, Paul, who passed away in 2019.
Alfred graduated from Rock Island High School in 1962. Upon graduation, Al started at the University of Iowa as a History major, before enlisting in the United States Air Force. His time in the Air Force was spent in Okinawa, Japan and at Otis Air Force Base. It was during his military training that Alfred began working as a Medical Technologist.
Upon discharge, Al moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he met his wife, Mary. They married in 1971 and had their first child, David in 1973. Seeking a new adventure, Al and Mary moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1975. Al and Mary were welcomed to the community by Rob and Peggy Sargent, whose family are dear friends to this day. During this time Al and Mary also began attending Southwood Church of the Nazarene.
Alfred worked his entire career in Kansas City at Truman Medical Center downtown and retired after well over 30 years of service. After retirement, Al fully embraced his fishing passions and remained active in his church.
We are grateful to the entire Southwood Church family and his friends made over his lifetime.
Thank you to everyone who played a role in Alfred Fletcher’s life. He was grateful for you all!
