Alice Louise Adranly, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the home of her daughter where she was receiving hospice care. She was born on February 12, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1945, and went on to graduate from the Research Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. After graduating, she spent her entire career working as an Orthopedic Surgical Nurse for the same team of two doctors. In 1956, she married Issa Adranly in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they adopted their two daughters, Joy and Karen. She was very active in their schools and eventually became PTA President. One of her greatest joys, however, was teaching children’s Sunday School for over 40 years. Many of these now grown up children have many fond memories of their time in her classroom. After retirement, she volunteered, along with her husband, at Baptist Hospital and Medical Center where, among other tasks, they worked together performing screenings and diagnosing colon cancer for the hospital’s annual colon cancer screening campaigns. Alice then went on to volunteer at Research Hospital in the Chaplain’s Office. Alice and Issa were active members of the local garden club, and began each day at the gym by 7am to walk two miles. Throughout her life she cared for the sick and the elderly and provided support for numerous families going through an illness, whether on or off work.
She loved cats. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was deeply devoted to bringing them up in the Christian faith from which she never wavered. At my high school reunion, after many years had passed, classmates remembered how awesome my mother was to everyone - some even went as far to say they wished they had her as their mother. She and dad gave all of us a really good life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl H. Larson and Marie C. Stone; siblings Dorothy Miller, Florence Enloe, and Carl Larson, Jr.; and husband Issa Adranly.
Ms. Adranly is survived by her brother, Don Larson (Bonnie); daughters Joy Garcia (Chris) and Karen Rogers (Pat); grandchildren Amanda and Rhett Henry; and great-grandchildren Lana Henry, Vivian Chapman, Ryker and Phoenix Henry. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11am, Monday, April 12, 2021 at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 8801 Nall Ave., Prairie Villages, KS 66207. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Covenant Church, Attn.: Children’s Ministry and/or City Union Mission, 1100 East 11th Street, Kansas City, MO 64108.
