Alice lived a long life filled with lots of stories. She graduated from Truman High School in 1942. She wanted to join the Army to serve as a nurse. Her father asked her to stay home and help take care of her ailing mother. Alice stayed home and helped the war effort by working at North American Aviation in Kansas City, Missouri. She installed radios in planes being built at the plant. She was a real-life “Rosie the Riveter”!
Alice married Hubert in 1959, blending 2 families. They had 4 children of their own. She’d say it was a “Yours, Mine and Ours” family.
Hubert and Alice loved to travel the USA in their travel trailer. Alice loved to crochet, play cards, and visit with friends and family. In her later years, she was especially fond of playing solitaire on her computer or tablet.
She was a longtime member of American Legion Auxiliary 189 in Lee’s Summit, serving in many capacities, including unit president.
Alice’s orneriness will be missed by everyone who knew her!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert; her daughters, Rita Taylor and Karen Conn; her son, Robert Conn; and 2 grandsons. She was the last of her seven siblings to pass away.
Alice is survived by her children, William James, Donna Bailes-Howard (Jim), Margaret Dearing (David), Janet Brockhouse (Steve), Ervin Conn (Kathy), Charlotte Crook, Charles Conn, thirteen grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
