Alice Margaret Riley

Beloved Alice Margaret (English) Riley, age 82, joined her son, Shawn Byron Pennell, on Sunday, July 16th, 2017 in her home surrounded by loving family. Alice was one of nine children, born on November 16th, 1934, in her beautiful homeland of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and faithfully went to mass throughout her entire life.

The family moved to the United States and made Kansas City their new home. Alice, through courage and grace, raised seven children while making many sacrifices along the way. In 1981, Alice met and married the love of her life, Thomas Keith Riley, where they shared their life in Olathe, Kansas. Alice and Keith enjoyed KU basketball, traveling, holidays with family, taking walks, bargain hunting and most of all their ten grandchildren.

Alice is survived by her husband, Thomas Riley, her children, Bernard Pennell, Leslie Simpson and spouse, Mike, Patrick Pennell and spouse, KayLynn, Stephanie Spencer and spouse, David, Colleen Laney, and Barry Pennell and spouse, Megan. Alice was blessed with ten grandchildren, whom she adored: Christopher and Lauren Simpson (fiancé Curtis), Beric and Brandon Laney, Emily, Megan, and Sarah Spencer, Katie and Shawn Pennell, and her newest grandchild, and her namesake, Ebba Margaret Pennell.

Anyone who knew Alice knew that she dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of spirituality. “You are in our hearts, Alice.”

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Rosary at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 20th, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Funeral Mass will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 21st, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W. 143rd Street, Olathe, Kansas. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
