Mrs. Jones was born July 8, 1926, in Allahabad, India to parents, Evka E. Gabriel and Stanley A. Gabriel. Her family later moved to Lucknow, India, where Alma attended school at the Loretto Convent.
After completing school, Mrs. Jones enlisted in the Army WAC(I) division as S/Sgt. WWII. In her capacity, she performed clerical duties with the British Army. Here she met her first husband, and immigrated to the United States as a G.I. war bride in 1946. Alma's first employment experience as a naturalized citizen of the United States was with the Colgate-Palmolive Co. in Armourdale, Kansas. She assisted in the re-organization of company files and books in the aftermath of the flood of 1951, thus remaining at Colgate-Palmolive for the next 20 years. Alma was later employed as an executive secretary for Business Men's Assurance Company in Kansas City, Missouri, where she retired.
Mrs. Jones was an avid gardener, a longtime member of the Greater Kansas City Herb Club, and Powell Gardens. She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church, and, attended the Church Seniors group. One of her favorite pastimes was photography, and some of her beautiful scenic photos from her travels was published in travel brochures.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert (Bob) Jones, and her son, Stanley I. Berry, of Waco, Texas. Alma is survived by two daughters, Leta E. Berry- Brewer of Shawnee, Kansas, Suzanne Berry- Prickett, of Fort Worth, Texas, three grandchildren: Erica Moss, James Berry, and Rusty Prickett, two great-grandchildren: Shawn Prickett and Chloe Moss, and sisters: Gertrude Gasper of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Ethel Kyte of Manchester, England, and Yvonne Dhillon of New Delhi, India.
A Visitation will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Monday, May 9 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00pm. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
