

Anna DiMilia Dziadik, 87, died Friday, October 2, 2015, at Advanced Health Care of Overland Park. Anna was born on October 19, 1927 in Calitri, Italy. She was the daughter of Vito Antonio DiMilia and Maria Fastiggi DiMilia. She married Gabriel Peter (Skip) Dziadik on October 16, 1949. He predeceased her on October 6, 1980.
Anna, her parents, and her brother Ralph left Italy and immigrated to Peekskill, New York in 1929. She lived in Peekskill until she moved to Kansas City in 2004. She graduated from Peekskill High School with a Regents Diploma in 1946. After her graduation Mrs. Dziadik worked for the New York Telephone Company. She vividly remembers the day Peekskill changed from switchboards to dial service. After her marriage, she and her husband Skip ran a contracting business together. They had two daughters, Carol & Mary. Anna was a loving mother who always made her family come first. She was well known at Uriah Hill Elementary School as a Room Mother and long-time volunteer. She believed in the importance of education and encouraged her daughters to read by making countless trips to the public library. An expert seamstress, she worked for many years making custom slipcovers and drapes. She taught her daughters to sew and had exacting standards for hemlines in both clothing and drapes. Her hobbies included knitting, crochet and fine embroidery work. Later in life Mrs. Dziadik was an active member of the Peekskill Senior Citizens Club and frequently volunteered at their dinners. She was also a Life Member of the Van Cortlandtville Historical Society. After moving to Kansas City, Mrs. Dziadik resided at Villa Ventura Retirement Complex where she made many new friends and formed a weekly Knitting Circle. Her Italian cookies and meatballs were enjoyed by friends and family wherever she lived.
She is survived by her children, Carol Dziadik Turner and her husband Daniel, Kansas City, MO; Mary Dziadik Russo and her husband Ralph, Iowa City, IA; grandchildren Peter Raphael Russo and his wife Christine Fry, Oakland, CA; Analisa Russo, Cambridge, MA; Andrew Gabriel Turner and his wife Mia, Lawton, OK; Rebecca Turner Povlock and her husband Joseph, Tulsa, OK; great-grandson Jacob Andrew Povlock, Tulsa, OK; cousin Leila Knizeski and her husband Casper, Peekskill, NY; sister-in-law Jean Dziadik Arnold, Denver, CO. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband and her brother, Ralph Antonio DiMilia (1979).
The family will see friends at a visitation on October 19, 2015 starting at 9:30 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. A funeral mass will follow at 11 AM. A mass celebrating her life will be held at the Church of the Assumption, Peekskill, NY on November 2, 2015 at 11:30 AM. Interment at the Assumption Cemetery will follow immediately.
