Ann was born on May 3, 1937, in Versailles, Missouri, to Richard Henry and Anna Retta (Atkison) Zurn. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, alongside her three older brothers — Charles Richard, twins Arthur Gene and Jimmie Dean — and her younger brother, Robert Lee Zurn.
After graduating from East High School in 1955, Ann met and fell in love with Fred Lee Roach. They were married in 1957 and settled in Independence, Missouri, where they raised three boys — Randal Alan, John David, and Timothy Brian. Having grown up surrounded by brothers, Ann was well prepared for the challenge of raising three lively boys whose energy filled her home and her heart. Amid the chaos and the clutter, she nurtured her sons with love and patience.
Life led Ann through many chapters filled with love, change, and resilience. After her marriage to Fred ended, she devoted herself to raising her boys in their Independence home. In time, she met and married Eugene Thomas Roe, and together they made a life in Kansas City and later in Raytown, Missouri. Though their paths eventually went in different directions, that chapter of her life remained rich with memories, friendship, and growth.
Ann’s hands were rarely still. She found joy and peace in the rhythm of her sewing machine and the feel of fabric beneath her fingertips. Often, she could be found at her sewing machine or piecing together fabrics late into the evening. Her quilts and handmade treasures found their way to loved ones, church friends, and those in need — quiet reminders of her generous and giving heart.
Her legacy lives on in the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in her famous Peanut Butter Balls, and in the countless memories she created with those she loved most.
Ann is survived by her son Tim Roach (Deborah); her brother, Charles Zurn; six grandchildren — Randy Roach, Lindsay (Mark) Chiles, Doyle (Taylor) Ackerman, Miranda (Keenan Harrison) Roach, Brian (Lauren Moore) Roach, and Tyler (Grace) Roach; and three great-grandchildren — Aubrey and Gabriel Chiles, and Adalyn Harrison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers — Art, Jim, and Bob; and her sons — Randy and John, who surely welcomed her home with open arms.
May her memory be a blessing, and may she rest in peace.
