MGySgt Anthony Thomas Reyes, 75, of Kansas City, Mo. passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Kansas City Hospice House, Monday September 19, 2022. Anthony was a 30-year-veteran of the United State Marine Corps serving in active and reserve duties.
Anthony was born December 17, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas to his parents, Andre and Hope Reyes. When he was 18, Anthony joined the U.S. Marine Corps and went to boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Anthony would go on to serve during the Vietnam War in Okinawa, Japan.
After returning to Kansas City, Anthony began a 30-year career at General Motors. During this time, he reenlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and was called to active duty during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He continued to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves until his retirement in 2005.
When he wasn’t working, he was never still. He enjoyed volunteering at the recycling center, St. Regis Catholic Church and School and especially with his Young Marine unit. In his retirement, he worked part-time at Harbor Freight in Olathe, Kan. where he enjoyed his co-workers and regular customers.
Anthony loved his family, especially the little ones and was usually ready with a joke or two. He became a Harley owner later in life and liked to ride his motorcycle around. He also likes turning wrenches on his old 55 Chevy in the garage.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Gabriel.
Anthony is survived by his wife Ora and their son Isaiah Reyes of Overland Park, Kan.; his second wife Mary and their four children, Anita Snyder (Jim) of Lakewood, Co., Jonas Domiguez (Jill) of Shawnee, Michele Elsey (Scott) of Gardner and Anthony Reyes Jr. (Angela) of Springdale, Ark.; his first wife Belia Reyes and their three children, Theresa Reyes-Cummings (Mike) of Kansas City, Kan, Michele Reyes King (Todd) of Kansas City, Kan. and Irene Reyes of Kansas City, Kan.; sisters Yolanda Delgado (Mario) of Louisburg, Kan. Mona Wiggins (Mike) of Independence, Mo., and Margaret Medellin, of Kansas City, Mo.; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He is loved and will be missed by his family, friends and his Marine Corps family. Semper Fi! Hoorah!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo. A family only burial will be that afternoon at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Anthony’s honor to St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church.
