Antonio Racela, Jr. MD

Antonio Sambrano Racela, Jr. MD, fondly called Tony, a beloved family man, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and his faithful dog, Boomer. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Luz Racela, their daughters, Marichi (Jerry) Smith and Ricci (Michael Bonahan) Racela, and their grandchildren, Taylor and Amelia Smith.

Tony’s journey began in the Philippines, where he excelled academically, becoming the valedictorian of his high school, earning him a spot at the prestigious University of the Philippines College of Medicine. It was in medical school where he met his future wife, Luz. After graduation, he was accepted into the residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, but shifted to pathology the following year. A few years later, the family embarked on a new chapter in their lives, relocating to Kansas City.

Throughout his life, Tony was able to intertwine his passion for helping the less fortunate, his love for art and promoting his Filipino heritage. His involvement with the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City, the Medical Missions Foundation, and the Health Outreach Foundation showcased his unwavering dedication to creating cultural awareness and providing care to those in need.

A celebration of Tony’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at McGilley State Line Chapel at 11:30 a.m.

A Requiem Mass will be held on March 6, 2025 at 10:00 am. at St. Sabina Catholic Church in Belton.
