Arthur “Sonny” Comer was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was defined by love, faith, and quiet generosity. He met the love of his life, Phyllis, while attending Northeast High School, and together they built a beautiful life, sharing nearly 66 years of marriage.
As a young man, Art loved playing baseball and was scouted by the Yankees. That passion was forever changed when he lost his leg at the age of 16 due to an injury while playing football. He faced this challenge with strength and determination, going on to build a life defined not by what he lost, but by all he gave and accomplished.
He retired from Armco Steel at 47 years old and continued providing for his family by working with his hands, building homes, leaving behind not just structures, but a legacy of craftsmanship and care.
Art found great joy in the simple and meaningful moments, especially time spent with family on fishing trips to Bull Shoals Lake, where memories were made that will be treasured for generations. A man of deep faith, he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior in 1966 at the age of 33, a decision that guided his life from that day forward.
Known for his generous spirit, Art was always ready to give to others, often in ways both big and small. He had a special love for Christmas, a season he embraced with warmth, joy, and tradition, including his award-winning Christmas lights, beautifully wrapped gifts with custom bows, and making his famous popcorn balls, a treat his family will always associate with him and the love he shared.
Art will be remembered for the life he built and the love he gave. More than anything, he cherished his family. His legacy lives on not only in the years he shared with Phyllis, but in the memories, traditions, and values he passed down to those who knew and loved him. He is remembered by his son, Gregg (and his wife, Gail), and his daughter, Diane (and her husband, Gene); four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, who will carry his stories forward, smile at the thought of his popcorn balls at Christmas, and feel his presence in the moments that matter most.
Because of his faith and his decision to follow Christ, his family finds comfort in knowing this is not the end of his story. He is now at peace, restored and whole, in the presence of the Lord he loved and trusted.
