

Art Schmidt, 89, passed away on May 12, 2013. Art was born on April 7, 1924, the son of Aloysius Andrew and Anna J. (Fischer) Schmidt, of Tipton, Missouri. He volunteered at St. Francis Xavier Church and St. Francis Xavier REACH Program, St. Vincent DePaul, VA Hospital, Truman Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospice. He was a long term American Heart Association blood donor and the State of Missouri volunteer of the year. Art was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Army Reserve. Art worked 42 years with the Postal Inspection Service.
Arthur was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Peggy, and youngest daughter, Anne Schmidt. He was the father of Rosemary Schmidt (Barry Steeves), Susan Flora (Doug Flora) and Sally Atkins; grandfather of Peter Flora (Kelly Winfrey), Michael Atkins (Letitia Anderson), Dominic Flora (Anne Flora), Justin Atkins (Camilla Atkins) and Brendan Atkins; great- grandfather of Brody Dominic, Emily Kate and Eva Letitia.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 52nd and Troost, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial following Mass in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Art's name may be made to St. Luke's Hospice.
