I was about nine years old when Audrey married my mom's brother Bernard. I remember trips from Iowa to Kansas City to visit them. My mom (Dorris Pringle) would occasionally stay a few days with Bernard and Audrey and invariably return home with stories about how Audrey would get mom laughing and how they would talk and laugh late into the night. When I got married to Tahnese in 1988, Audrey made the trip from KC to Ames, Iowa via Greyhound Bus to be with us for the rehearsal dinner and wedding. She assisted Tahnese in the wedding preparations. Tahnese quickly grew to appreciate Audrey's great sense of humor and thoughtfulness. Over the years we were able to make a few trips to KC to visit Audrey, and one trip to the care facility at Grain Valley. We had a good laugh on that last visit, as even though Audrey's memory was failing she still remembered when we took her to a Chinese restaurant a couple of years earlier. She loved that meal! That was when she shared stories with us about moving to KC with Dwight when he was a little boy and staying in a cold apartment and finding work. It was so wonderful to hear about how she and uncle Bernard met at a dance. Even though he had passed away many years earlier, the love Audrey had for Bernard never faded. I will always remember her as a very strong, hard working and caring woman of faith with a great sense humor who was always a joy to be around. We loved her here on earth and look forward to seeing her again in heaven!
