

Audrey Bernice Thomas, 98 of Independence, Missouri passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018. There will be a Visitation for family and friends Sunday, December 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00pm and the funeral service will be Monday, December 24th at 10:00am at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO 64133.
Audrey was born March 10, 1920 in Kansas City, MO to Arthur and Verletta (Wessley) Odom. She is remembered by her friends and family as a very hospitable,kind, loving, generous person who was dedicated to helping others.
As a young girl she loved to go to dances. One evening at the Minute Circle Friendly House, her local neighborhood dance hall, she was introduced to the love of her life, Harley G. Thomas. After dating, for 9 months they married July 20, 1940. They were married for nearly 51 years. Audrey was an excellent cook. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her homemade chicken and noodles, pies and homemade hot fudge sundaes at family dinners. She was a beloved mother and grandmother by her family as well as many who claimed her as their adopted grandmother over the years. Audrey was always sorry she didn’t become a school teacher, but when she became a Jehovah’s Witness, she fulfilled her dream of teaching, by sharing Bible truths with others. She was extremely involved in her Christian Ministry.
She will be remembered by her son Robert Thomas and wife Barbie of Indianapolis, IN, daughter Barbara Pendergraft of Independence, MO; grandchildren Jeff Pendergraft and wife Wendy of Independence, MO, Kim Axtell and husband Scott of Frisco, TX, Travis Thomas and wife Angel of Olathe, KS; great-grandchildren Christian Thomas, Ava Axtell, Grace Axtell, Madeline Axtell, Finnegan Thomas Avery Thomas and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers John and Arthur, her sisters Vivian Beversten and Frances Jones, husband Harley Thomas and her grandson Troy Thomas.
