Barbara J. Corkill

Barbara Jean Corkill passed away peacefully in her sleep June 11, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 23, 1933 to Ernest G. Garnier and Mildred A. Gooding. Barbara graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She married the love of her life Robert E. Corkill on Nov. 7, 1953, and together they raised their family of nine children. She was the Head Nurse of Pediatrics at St. Luke’s Hospital for 25 years, and started the Wanna Be Well sick child day care program before her retirement in 1997. She is survived by her sister, Ernestine Iseman and brother, Richard Garnier. Also, survived by her husband, Bob and her children, Lori (Bill) Wubbenhorst, Paul (Molly) Corkill, John (Mona) Corkill, Mark Corkill, Luke (Karen) Corkill, Earl (Amy) Corkill, Joel (Patty) Corkill, Melody (Mike) Wagner, Kent (Melissa) Corkill, 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all of the Kansas City area. Visitation will be from 3:00- 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2012 with the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 18 at 9:30 a.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W 71st Street, Overland Park, Kansas with burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
