Barbara "Bobbie" Ann Dahlquist

November 3, 1932August 7, 2019

Barbara Ann (Bobbie) Dahlquist, 86, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, peacefully went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2019 after battling cancer and a stroke.

Bobbie was born on November 3, 1932 to Fred and Theresa Henn in Kansas City, Missouri. She had two older siblings, sisters Marie and Betty. In 1949 she graduated from Loretto Academy. Bobbie married Tony Blaschke in 1952. They moved to Sedalia, MO in 1963 where they raised their three children, John, Debby and Sandy.

Bobbie was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was very proud of her family and always made holidays and family get-togethers special. After her kids started school, she worked at Interstate Studio as a proofreader. Outside of work she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, was involved with several community services and charities, and loved gardening, sewing, bowling, fishing and dancing. But most of all Bobbie loved people! Friendly to everyone she met, her warm, welcoming personality made even strangers quickly feel like old friends. She always had a smile, a hug and joyful words to share as well as a feisty sense of humor.

Upon moving back to Kansas City in 1982, Bobbie began work for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce as an event coordinator. There, while serving as fellow judges in a barbecue contest, she met her beloved husband, Bill Dahlquist. Bobbie and Bill were married in 1992. They enjoyed life together at their home in Brookside and many years of traveling. In 2007 they moved to John Knox Village and quickly became involved in various activities, including theatrical productions. Bobbie volunteered several days a week at the thrift shop where she enjoyed socializing with customers and co-workers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family playing cards, golfing or just sharing a meal and laughter together. In later years one of her most treasured times was daily morning coffee with Bill, reading “Jesus Calling” and deepening their faith together.

Bobbie is survived by her husband Bill, sisters Marie Kissinger and Betty Fasl, son John Blaschke, daughters Debby (Terry) DeMattei, Sandy (Dave) Thompson, stepsons Brian, Bruce, Dean (Rebecca), Gary (Terri), and Craig (Terri) Dahlquist, 7 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bobbie was one of the sweetest ladies at John Knox Village. She never failed to greet me without a smile and something nice to say about the day. Truly one who followed in the path of our Lord. I will miss her.

I liked you the minute we met. I loved you as soon as I knew you. You were my mother-in-law I had always wanted! We would have hung out if we had grown up together. You loved my mom. You loved my kids. I’ll never forget any of our adventures. Especially when you, my mom and I hit up Northern California. The private wine tour, my mom getting mad at us for being goofy while we were in San Francisco traffic, and she was driving, to the great hotel we booked which ended up being directly above a bar, one king size bed for all of us! You and Bill are the perfect love story. I will only tell you see u later just like I told my mom. And we will. I LOVE YOU BOBBIE ❤️💔

I was a bit leery of the new woman in Dad’s life but those feelings immediately subsided after being introduced to Bobbie, my future step-mother. Right from the start she made me and Terri feel so special with each and every visit.
When I learned Dad met her at the Lenexa BBQ I knew she was a keeper.
A strong and lasting bond developed between my growing family, my wife Teri, and especially between Her and my Mother-in-Law Claudine. With frequent trips to Tulsa we often enjoyed playing cards and lots of laughter...she really knew how to put my Father-in-Law Phil in his place and do so with love and laughter. She was an awesome grandmother to my children, a mother in law to my wife and a tremendous spouse to my Father.
We will deeply miss her contagious personality, her deep love of Jesus and her wicked sense of humor. I know she and Claudine, and Grandpa Fred, are having a great time in heaven and preparing a place for us all.
God Bless you Bobbie and thank you for leaving a special place in my heart. I will do my best to follow your examples of love, servitude, Family and deepening the bond with our Lord and SaviorJesus Christ.
Love you always
