

Barbara was born on May 31, 1930 to Edgar A. and Marguerite L. {Thelen) Poe in Kansas City MO. She graduated from Southeast High School and studied graphic art at Metropolitan Junior College in 1947.
Barbara met the love of her life, Joe Fountain at the Pla-Mor ice rink. They were married on June 14, 1949 and honeymooned the summer long in Alaska in a wooden floored tent and then wintered in Mexico.
She worked as a graphic artist for Bendix and later for Panhandle Pipeline. Joe and Barbara together designed and began building their home in 1955, finishing in 1961. Barbara was very active in their Church, Holmeswood Baptist. She sang in the choir, worked on many committees and taught Sunday school.
A lifelong Kansas City resident, Barb and Joe lived in Boston MA, Great Falls MN. Reno NV, and a few other locations when Joe, as architect, had to work on airport renovations out of town for Burns and McDonald.
Barbara never met a stranger, always welcoming and eager to make new friends and have new experiences. Her smile lit up a room and her conversation was always interesting and lively.
Barbara's lifelong love of Japanese and Egyptian art inspired her gardening and design. She had a small Japanese water garden complete with orange koi and water lilies. That was a must see on the KC Water Garden Society tour.
Barbara was a gifted artist. She excelled in painting, mostly working in water colors and always with an extraordinary eye for design.
Barbara's love, Joe Fountain passed in 2001. Undaunted by this, she traveled to
Japan and the Middle East. The later, much to the horror of her family at the beginning of the Iraq war. She would not be moved to cancel.
She retired to John Knox Village in 2015 where she passed.
She is survived by her two daughters, Diana J. Suckiel (Robert) and Roxanne Hill (Steve). Also by three grandchildren, Anthony J. Suckiel (girlfriend Laura), Albert W. Hill (Michelle) and Patrick C. Suckiel (Alissa). She was blessed by eight great-grandchildren. Kaleb Simmons, Keegan Hill, Kamden Hill, Amelia Suckiel, Korbin Hill, Piper Suckiel and Kelton Hill.
There will be a celebration of life on Monday, September 12 at 11:00am at The Chapel of Hope, Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes, Kansas City, MO.
Following that service, there will be a visitation and lite lunch served at Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131
