Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Carl, in 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. Together they raised their four children in Worthington, Ohio, before making Leawood, Kansas their home in 1983.
In her younger years, Barbara was an avid bowler, and throughout her life she was a passionate golfer, forming many treasured friendships on the course. When not golfing, she loved traveling the world alongside her husband, Carl. Barbara also generously gave her time as a devoted volunteer – a “foot soldier” – for the American Cancer Association.
Family meant everything to Barbara. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel special, known, important and deeply valued. Barbara loved gathering with friends and family, she had a keen sense of humor and especially enjoyed eating out on the town. When her grandchildren arrived, Barbara embraced her role as a devoted grandmother, nurturing close and meaningful relationships with each of her seven grandchildren. Beginning in 2019, she joyfully stepped into her cherished role as “Oma” to her ten (plus one on the way) great-grandchildren, a journey that brought her immense pride and happiness.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 69 years, Carl Roemmele; her children, Lisa Roemmele (Susan) of Columbus, Ohio, Laura Gurwell (Derek) of Olathe, Kansas, Julie Tait (Rob) of Overland Park, Kansas; her seven grandchildren; Josh Petty (Amy), Justin Petty (Jada), Ian Tait, Alexandra Dunseth, Jake Petty (Claire), Graham Tait (Michelle), Hannah Davidson (Caleb) and her ten beautiful great grandchildren; Lily, Michael, Delilah, Leighton, Ensley, Valerie, Lincoln, Emmett, Wilder and Liam. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in- law, Betsy and Steve Kaster of Green Bay, Wisconsin, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son Richard Roemmele of Columbus, Ohio, and her siblings: Don Hillier of Pasadena, California, Dorothy Marasco of Romeo, Michigan, and Shirley Malinski of Troy, Michigan.
A Memorial Rosary and Mass will be held on April 10th at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, located at 3800 W. 119th Street, Leawood, KS 66209.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to your local animal shelter, as Barbara was a lifelong animal lover.
