Barbara Nadine Holmes Scott

Barbara Nadine (Holmes) Scott, 99, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at The Homestead of Leawood, surrounded by family. Barbara was born on July 6, 1912 in Holmes Park, Missouri. She was the daughter of James C. Holmes and Hattie Mae (Talley) Holmes. She studied ballet at the Cranston School of Music in Kansas City and performed at the Shubert Theatre. Barbara graduated from Ruskin High School in 1929 and studied commercial art at the Kansas City Art Institute. She married William E. Scott, her high school sweetheart, on June 23, 1934 at the Hickman Mills Christian Church. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and homemaker, raising her children to appreciate the importance of family and heritage. She was an active member of University Heights Christian Church and the CWF (Christian Women’s Fellowship), and later moved her membership to the Red Bridge Christian Church. Her husband, William E. Scott, died in 1989 after 55 happy years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Nutt and grandson, Brian Scott. She is survived by her sons, William R. Scott and wife, Sherri of Kansas City, Missouri and James E. Scott and wife, Petie of Blue Springs, Missouri, a daughter, Janet Spicer and husband, Randy of Lenexa, Kansas, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two nephews and a niece. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 16 followed by the funeral service at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Red Bridge Christian Church, 10842 McGee Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Condolences may be offered at Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City, MO.
