

Barbara Ruth Hazard Staples, 85, passed away January 20, 2017, in Overland Park, KS. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, October 12, 1931. She graduated from Southwest High School, Kansas City, MO; from Stephens College, Columbia, MO and from University of Omaha, Omaha, NE. She was married to Laurance S. Staples, Jr., October 5, 1957
For many years she was active at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in the choir, the altar guild and served as Parish Administrator. She also had been employed with her mother at the Hallmark card shop, Country Club Plaza in Kansas City and served as a home economics representative for Omaha Public Power District, Omaha, NE. She enjoyed traveling often with her husband as he served the American Association of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
She was predeceased by her parents; Albert J. Hazard and Edna Nichols Hazard. She is survived by her husband; son, Laurance (III); daughter, Mary Mills; and granddaughter, Marie Chiyo.
The funeral service will be held February 10, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO 64131. Reception will follow the service at the same location.
