Born on August 6, 1928 in Kansas City, KS. Beatriz lived in Raytown, MO.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe of nearly 63 years, as well as by her parents Fernando and Marta (Perez) Pacheco and her siblings Victor, Concepcion “Concha”, Luz, Clementina “Cleme”, Candelaria “Lala”, and Mary.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Blount, her sons Joe (Sue) and Victor; her grandchildren Alex Blount (Sara), Erica Thurman (Ryan), Ben Robles (Elizabeth), Bridgette Robles, and great grandson Calvin Robles.
Bea became a nurse “accidentally” when her best friend, Esther Rodriguez, wanted to be one! Esther’s mother and the priest got them both into St. Mary’s Nursing School. Bea said the nuns were tough. She was the family “consultant”. Anyone with issues would get medical advice and direction from Bea. She constantly read medical books and articles, even after retirement.
She retired after nearly 40 years in nursing to “take care of her grandchildren”, and she spent the last 20 years working at Menorah Medical Center on the Plaza.
Bea and her siblings, cousins, and friends enjoyed sports and dance growing up. Even though life was difficult, they never seemed to be resentful.
She loved baseball and cheered for the Kansas City Atheltics and her favorite pitcher, Diego Segui. She cheered for the Royals and especially her “cousin” Salvador Perez. While she always enjoyed the Chiefs, she became a rabid fan of Isaiah Pacheco and claimed him as a “cousin”, just like Salvy!
When asked why she picked Joe to spend her life with, Bea said he was persistent when they met at a dance! (Joe was no dummy.) Also, “he could cook!”
She found joy in church involvement at St. Bernadette church for six decades, until she was physically unable. She volunteered at the food pantry, St. Ann Guild, cleaning the church, and she attended exercise classes. She loved the beautiful hymns. She was devoted to her faith. Bea was a shining example of Christ’s love.
Bea loved and supported her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, including Kathy’s love of music and singing, and Joe and Vic’s (and many cousins’) love of baseball. She made lots of Kathy’s and her own clothes and taught Kathy to sew. Although Joe Jr. made his home in Springfield, MO, she stayed close to him and his family through countless phone calls and visits throughout the years. She made numerous Halloween costumes, decor, and formal dresses for her grandchildren. She attended her grandchildren’s activities and performances with her video recorder in tow.
Later in life, Bea stole the heart of Victor’s dog Felicia “Puppy”, who stayed by her side as they grew old together. If there wasn’t a Royals game on tv, she was watching “Monk” with Kathy or “Sister Act” with Victor.
Many people have reached out to call Bea “my favorite aunt”.
The family would like to thank the loving care she received at Jackson Creek Memory Care. Thank you to Mona, Chuck, and Crystal, and all the staff at JCMC. She made a special connection with Jennifer and David, who treated her with extra love and care.
Most of all, Bea will be remembered as kind, generous, soft-spoken, loving, and faithful. She loved her Joe, and they were devoted to each other. She will be missed by all who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Bernadette Food Pantry.
