Benjamin Carl Alexander was born, November 14, 1925 to the union of George and Pearl Alexander in West Baden, Indiana and was raised in Hiawatha and Leavenworth, Kansas. Ben was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Gantt. He was baptized at a young age by Reverend John W. Hayes, at the First Baptist Church of Leavenworth. He attended schools in both Hiawatha and Leavenworth, graduation from Leavenworth High School. Ben served his country during World War II as Navy Seaman First Class and retired from the V.A. Hospital and Research Medical Center after 31 years of service. He met and married, the former Enita Washington, September 28, 1958, and to this union was born one son, John Carlton Alexander. He was known for his quick wit and ability to keep laughter flowing in every conversation. He loved to sing. As a child, Ben was part of a trio with two of his sisters and later sang in the choir at Swope Parkway United Christian Church, where he was a member. Benjamin Carl Alexander went to meet the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife, Enita: a daughter, Charisse; a son, John; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Megan and John Benjamin; sisters, Cornelia Brown and Rosemary Hall; sister-in-laws, Helen Ivory and Lucy Dwight; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at Swope Parkway United Christiah Church, 6140 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri, 64130.
