

Bernice (Krzyzek) Sloan, age 96, of Independence, MO, passed away on February 7, 2025. Services will be held on Saturday, February 15th at St. Marks Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee's Summit Road, Independence, MO. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Rosary at 10:15 a.m., and funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Bernice was born in Kansas City, MO to Stanley Krzyzek and Anna (O'Bara). She married the love of her life, Don Sloan, December 27, 1946, and was married for 54 years. They had three daughters. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and St. Marks Parish, as well as a member of the Altar Society and a volunteer at the Bishop Sullivan Center. Bernice enjoyed playing word games and was an avid Iris gardener. Playing bingo was also a priority and she became known as the "Bingo Queen" at her residence. Bernice was extremely proud of her Polish heritage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Sloan, brothers, Steve Kryzck and Frank Krzyzek. She is survived by her three daughters, Donna Snelson, Karen Lata (Eddie), Sharon Rupniewski (Richard); six grandchildren, Scott Snelson (Monica), Cari Russell (Dave), Rich Rupniewski (Kim), Ryan Snelson (Jana), Shelly Simpson (Nathan) and Ann Rupniewski (Robert); eight great grandchildren, Samantha, Allison, Dane, Blake, Brandi (Tyler), Kale, Sloan and Sydney; one great-great granddaughter, Ember.
She will be greatly missed by her family, who was the most important part of her life, as well as her many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bishop Sullivan Center.
