

Bethel C. Shuey, 94, passed away at Centerpoint Medical Center on January 13, 2025 after a brief illness. Bethel was born in Brumley, MO to her parents, Champ and Icel Robinett and was the oldest of 10 children. She graduated from Raytown High School and shortly after she married Austin E. (Gene) Shuey. They were united in marriage on July 31, 1948.
Together, Bethel and Gene primarily resided in Raytown, MO and raised 5 children. Family was the most important aspect of both Bethel and Gene’s life. They both worked very hard raising their family and enjoyed trips and holidays with everyone. Sunday family meals were always a big affair in the household. Bethel always cooked two complete meals on Sunday so that everyone had something on the table they liked. Weekend trips to the lake were a family affair which also included aunts, uncles and cousins. Fun included time on the water and fishing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Champ and Icel Robinett; her husband, Austin E. (Gene) Shuey; her daughter, Barbara Faris; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Shuey; and 6 siblings.
Bethel is survived by her sons, Gary Shuey and Larry Shuey (Lorri); daughters, Joyce Deese (Pete) and Janis Woolridge (Kelly); 11 grandchildren: Brian (Susie), Matt (Chris), Scott (Kristine), Cory (Sara), Michael (Amy), Kara (Duwayne), Bethany (James), Jonathan (Kate), Amy (Kevin), Kris (Kayla), and Brittany (Ben); 24 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 20 from 1-2pm, with a service at 2pm and burial to follow, all at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
