Betty Jane Colburn passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021, at her home in Grove, Oklahoma surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 26, 1940, in Wyaconda, Missouri and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri by Dolly A. (Allen) Dooley and Emmett William Dooley and attended Kansas City Public Schools. She married Richard Henry Briggs on July 22, 1955, in Kansas City and they raised five children: sons Richard Lee and Larry Gene Briggs, twin sons Michael James and Mitchell Joseph Briggs, and daughter Linda Jean.

She worked as a printer/typesetter for many years in addition to trying to keep her kids in line – which was a full-time job. She served as assistant den mother to Cub Scout Pack #3261 and attended many, many of her kids’ activities & sporting events over the years.

After her husband’s death in 1974, she married Valdie A. Colburn on February 14, 1975, and they moved to Spring Hill, Kansas. There they enjoyed having family and friends over for parties and campouts and horseback riding. Betty enjoyed dancing and being at the lake near the water in Oklahoma. Raised on a farm, she had an affection for dogs, horses, and other farm animals. She loved being around her grandchildren and eventually her great-grandchildren and more recently a great-great-grandchild.

In her retirement, she loved going to the casinos for gambling and the buffets (even though she complained about how awful the food was every time she went). She loved going to Branson with Linda and she also loved cooking for her neighborhood and friends and family that she always seemed to have over. No one else was allowed in her kitchen because they just did not do it right!

She is survived by sons Richard Briggs, Larry Briggs (Ronda), her daughter Linda Murry (Clayton); grandchildren Tiffani Mann (Ron), Nick Cunningham (Tira), Dylan Briggs (Regan), Tanner Briggs (Tina), Keenan Briggs (Kate) and Jessica Briggs (RD); 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by the remaining members of the Colburn family. She was preceded in death by her twin sons Mike and Mitch, her husband Val, and grandsons Mitchell Briggs, Jr., and Noah Briggs.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 14 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 15, also at the funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Grove, Oklahoma on June 26.

While flowers will be much appreciated, the Family also suggests contributions to Second Chance Pet Rescue, 64301 East 290 Road, Grove, OK 74344.
