In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Betty Waters Tiehen Scholarship at St. Teresa’s Academy, 5600 Main, Kansas City, MO 64113.Betty was born in Kansas City, MO, on February 13, 1924 to Nora and Michael Waters. She graduated from St. Teresa’s Academy in 1940. She married the love of her life, Ambrose Andrew Tiehen on February 27, 1943. To this union eight children were born. Ambrose preceded her in death on November 7, 1972. Betty had a deep love of family, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Grammy) and great grandmother. Betty’s gift to this world was her deep devotion to her children. Her legacy of love is shown in the way each of her children and grandchildren have modeled their lives. Betty also had the gift of multiplying food! She was a master of how to feed a family of ten with one scrawny chicken. There was always room for more at her table! Betty was a lifelong avid bridge player and met many of her friends through her association with The Ladies of Charity. (We’re betting she is already organizing bridge games with her friends who preceded her on the eternal journey). Betty was also a volunteer for many years at St. Joseph Hospital. She had a deep enduring love for the Blessed Mother and hence was a role model for her family. Also preceding Betty in death, were her parents Nora and Michael Waters, two brothers, Michael and Frances Waters and her second husband Tom Keyes, Betty will be lovingly remembered by her six daughters and two sons, Diane (Joe) Schloegel, Kathy (Frank) Carey, Barbara (Steve) Flynn, Patti Tiehen, Nan (Bill) Bone, Jane (Andy) Quarnstrom, Jim (Rita) Tiehen, Dan (Trish) Tiehen, by her sister Dolores Fleming and twenty nine grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. The family deeply appreciates the care and compassion of the staff at Grand Court, Carondelet Care, Kansas City Hospice and Sister Servants of Mary. We love you, mom, and will miss you everyday for the rest of our lives. You have been a good and faithful servant.
