

Betty Elinor Libby, of Mission Hills, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by 11:00 a.m. funeral services Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made in Betty’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.
Betty was born July 13, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Hazel Boshell and graduated from Southeast High School. She worked several years for Skelly Oil Company in accounting and communications. Betty married Hugh L. Libby, May 15, 1954, and was a devoted homemaker.
Betty was a lovely lady with sparkling blue eyes and a beautiful smile. She brought happiness to everyone she met on her journey through life. She enjoyed dancing, tennis, fishing, skiing, boating and traveling throughout the world. She was a member of the People to People Tennis Team—playing events in Spain, Australia, and New Zealand. Betty enjoyed spending time at the Rainy Lake cabin in Fort Frances, Canada, where she spent many summers with family and friends. Betty also spent many winters at the family home in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Betty was active in many civic and social organizations. She was a docent for the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, chairperson Benefit Auction for Art (BAFD), co-chairperson for Renaissance Festival when it was first organized for support of the Kansas City Art Institute, and a member of Kansas City Young Matrons. Betty was a member of Mission Hills Country Club, Carriage Club, and Boulder Club in Arizona. She was a member of Village Presbyterian Church for many years.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Henry Boshell, sister Anita Schnee Taylor, son Matthew Libby, and son Daniel Libby. She is survived by husband Hugh L. Libby, nephew Robert Schnee, niece Kathy Schnee, grandniece Libby Carleton, and grandniece Lisa Jacobs.
