Betty Jean Nixon, Overland Park, KS, passed away August 9, 2014. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., with Daughters of the Nile, Ladies Shriners service at 7:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South.
Betty was born September 21, 1920 in Mountain View, MO, daughter of Charles and Hiva (Whiteis) Walker. She graduated from Northeast High School. Betty was a member of Lambda Tau Delta Sorority, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and Ladies without Nobles at Abdallah Shrine. She was also a member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Steele (Larry), son Kenneth Nixon (Peggy), grandchildren Beverly, Jodi, Scott, Christine, Heath, Joshua and Kenzie, and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, c/o Abdallah Shrine, 5300 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66202.
