A gravesite only service will be held 2:30 pm on Tuesday May 26 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Wyandotte County. Due to the current environment, immediate family will only be allowed, at gravesite but all other friends and family of Betty can pay their respects from their cars.
Betty was born December 22, 1929 to Frank and Marjorie Hatfield in Marysville, KS and grew up in Kansas City, KS. Betty was a Wyandotte High School 1948 graduate. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Pen & Scroll. Betty played Basketball, Softball, Tennis and Volleyball intramural sports in High School.
Betty was a loving and spiritual person who was an inspiration of devotion to her family and friends. She spent 10 years volunteering at Hallmark Kaleidoscope and is an Honor Roll Member. She dedicated her time by reading to elementary students at Southeast Elementary School. Betty was an avid Chiefs, Royals and KU Basketball fan (we tried to convert her). Gardening was a joy and especially proud of her Peonies that she replanted in many family’s homes. She was an expert Bingo player (she was known as the “Bingo Queen” and set a record at Primrose for winning eight games in one night) and never passed up an opportunity to play Mexican dominos. She was a spiritual person and member of Platte Woods Methodist Church. She wrote “the best day of the week was her time at the the church’s Prayer Shawl Program.”
But her greatest passion and relaxation was handmade quilts and crocheting for family, friends and those in need. At her passing she was working on three shawls for families in need.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years, Harold W. Wall whom she cared for with unwavering passion during his final days battling cancer; her parents and her oldest son Dennis who passed away in 1981.
Survivors include Ron (Joyce) Wall of Overland Park, KS; Jim (Cindy) Wall Kansas City, MO; Warren Wall, Riverside, MO and daughter in law Lorraine Wall, Raytown, MO. Betty was proud, dedicated to and loved her five grandchildren; Brian (Chelsea) Wall, Lenexa, KS; Megan (Jarrod) Hammond, Liberty, MO; Jessica (Kenny) Hutton, St. Louis, MO; Caitlin (Zach) Saajasto, Madison, WI and Kyle Wall, Hoffman Estates, IL. She was a proud G.G to eight great grandchildren.
Betty wrote out her final wishes and the last sentence she wanted communicated to all her family and friends was: “Hope Keeps Us Going.”
