Beverly J Lowry-Poplinger

Beverly Lowry Poplinger of Overland Park passed away July 26, 2014. She was born on Dec. 4, 1926, to the late Claude and Frances Cochran. Beverly attended the University of Missouri, graduating in 1947 with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education coining the nickname "Sweatsocks Lowry".

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 47 years, James Lowry, her second husband Louis Poplinger and her first grandchild Walter Klose III. She is survived by her son J. Kent Lowry (Susan), daughter Sharon Klose, grandchildren Colin Klose (Melanie), Valerie Klose, Aislinn Lowry Gauchay (Travis), sister Betty Kirtland (Jak) and nephews Kirt Kirtland (Cindy), and Steven Kirtland (Cindy), and Lou's son Jim Poplinger (Nancy) and family.

After marrying Jim, she taught P.E. at Southwest High School before joining him in Germany, where he was stationed. Upon returning to the area, Bev became active in the community, supporting the Musettes, Thetas and the American Royal. She and Jim enjoyed spending time at Fin and Feather, Saddle and Sirloin Club and Estes Park, Colorado. Bev was a proud MU Tiger and Chiefs fan, and never shied away from telling you so. She was a loving mother and grandmother, affectionately referred to as "Ba". While nothing was more important to her than her family, bridge was a close second. After Jim's death, Bev remarried and was able to travel and enjoy life again with her second husband Lou.

She will always be known for her quick wit, sarcasm and humor. She remained fiercely independent and stubborn until the end. To quote Bev, "It's been one hell of a ride!" A heartfelt thanks goes out to the Forum and her many caregivers who provided comfort during her final days. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
