BONNIE JUNE CHRISTY was born Saturday, October 7, 1944 in Sedalia, Missouri. She passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the age of eighty-one. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Christy, as well as siblings Tim, Danny, and Sherry. Survivors include her sister Allison, step-daughter Tammy, sons Todd and Scott, and grandchildren Alison, Emma, Branton, Myla, and Onyx.
Bonnie graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1963. She was an accomplished artist, both professionally and in her personal life, working as a retoucher painting directly on negatives and photographs for many years. She was a loving mother, and had an in-home daycare when her children were young. Many of the children fortunate enough to pass through her home still think of her as a second mother. She was the best of neighbors, always there to help with anything anyone needed. She never let age stop her, wielding a chainsaw to cut up fallen branches and doing home renovations right up until her final illness.
Bonnie always found ways to stay busy and involved in her community. Halloween was her favorite holiday, and she aspired to make it magical for every child who came to her door. She will always be remembered for the elaborate displays she created every year. She loved to fish, especially at the cabin her father, Denzil, built with his own hands. She could rarely be found at home on weekends during fishing season, much preferring to spend her days in a boat, fishing pole in hand. Bonnie was an excellent forager; gathering berries, mushrooms, and greens from the wild. She and Gary were long-time members of the Calico Cut-ups Square Dance Club.
The family invites you to a memorial for Bonnie at Newcomer’s Floral Hills in Raytown, MO from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. We will share stories and celebrate a life well-lived, among the friends and family who were blessed to know her.
